Description:

Families in Focus was started in 2007 by 3 parents with experience in nursing, counselling and education. In 2010 one of the founding directors left to pursue other interests and the current form of Families in Focus was born. Our main experience and expertise are supporting and training parents of children and young people with Special Education Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) to empower and raise knowledge levels so their families can prosper. Our research and evidence-based courses have the Canparent Quality Awards, a mark of best practice and verified and proven to be effective. We are uniquely placed to have personal experience of SEND within our own families meaning we have enhanced knowledge and experience that enables us to offer realistic and deep understanding and empathy to the challenges experienced by parent carers. We successfully deliver train the trainer on all our evidence-based courses and CPD Accredited facilitator training for organisations supporting parents and young people with SEND.

Accredited Activities:

  • Families in Focus CIC Volunteer Parent Facilitator Training

Who Should Attend:

Our parenting courses and support groups are for parents of children and young people (CYP) with SEND and are inclusive of all those parents that may be on assessment pathways for many years.

Our train-the-trainer programmes are for practitioners working to support parents of children and young people with SEND, and those wishing to extend their understanding of the emotional journey and Process of Adaptation parents travel when they are parenting with SEND.
