Description:

Offering practical Trusted Assessor training for health and social care professionals, helping organisations reduce waiting lists, improve assessment capacity and support people to live safely and independently at home.

Our Trusted Assessor courses provide CPD-accredited training for local authority staff, housing providers, care providers and community teams who need to assess for equipment and minor adaptations safely and confidently. The training focuses on practical, real-world assessment skills that allow staff to identify risks in the home, recommend appropriate equipment and support faster decision-making without unnecessary delays.

Many organisations ask: how can we safely expand assessment capacity when occupational therapy services are under pressure? Trusted Assessor training provides a practical solution by enabling trained staff to complete basic functional and environmental assessments, identify appropriate equipment such as grab rails, raised toilet seats or transfer aids, and escalate more complex needs to occupational therapists where required.

Our training helps organisations:

  • Reduce waiting lists for equipment and minor adaptations
  • Improve discharge pathways and prevent hospital admissions
  • Increase confidence of frontline staff completing home assessments
  • Ensure safe and proportionate decision-making when recommending equipment

Courses are delivered face-to-face and are highly interactive, combining presentations, case studies, group discussions and demonstrations of common equipment used in community settings. Participants learn how to assess functional ability within the home environment, identify environmental risks and recommend safe equipment solutions.

The Trusted Assessor programme includes:

  • Level 2 Trusted Assessor Training – a one-day course covering the Trusted Assessor role, assessment principles, equipment awareness and safe practice.
  • Level 3 Trusted Assessor Training – a two-day course providing deeper learning in functional assessment, environmental risks, equipment prescription and complex case scenarios.

Training is delivered by experienced clinicians working in health and social care, ensuring the learning is practical, relevant and directly applicable to frontline services. Courses are led by a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with over 10 years’ experience across NHS and local authority services, specialising in community rehabilitation, equipment provision, housing adaptations and functional assessment within people’s homes. The trainer also has extensive experience delivering professional development training to health and social care teams and focuses on practical learning that enables staff to confidently support independence and improve outcomes for the people they work with.

Participants will learn how to identify risks in the home environment, recognise appropriate equipment solutions, and understand when a referral to an occupational therapist is required.

This training helps organisations build workforce capacity, support quicker access to equipment and improve outcomes for people who wish to remain safe and independent in their own homes.
