Bespoke Dancewear Academy provides specialist online training in stretch dancewear, leotard, costume and tutu making, designed for learners who want to develop professional practical skills in creating made-to-measure dancewear.
The Academy provides structured, step-by-step training covering the skills required to work confidently with Lycra and other stretch fabrics. Learners progress from understanding specialist tools, equipment, fabrics and safe working practices through to pattern reading, measuring, fitting, construction techniques, lining, stretch mesh, decorative overlays and more advanced costume-making and embellishment techniques.
The training is suitable for people searching for courses in dance costume making, leotard making, sewing with Lycra, stretch fabric sewing, tutu making and professional dancewear construction. It is designed to provide specialist knowledge that can be difficult to access through conventional sewing and dressmaking courses, where working with performance stretch fabrics is often only covered briefly.
The Academy has been created and is taught by Doreen “Dot” Speight, founder of Bespoke Dancewear. Dot has more than 40 years of sewing experience and approximately 10 years of experience teaching costume and dancewear construction. She has taught students from across the UK and internationally and specialises in practical methods for creating professional, well-fitting stretch dancewear.
