Description:
K9 Trail Time is an online business retailing the specialist dog sports equipment needed to take part in canicross, bikejoring and dog scootering set up by Director Emily Thomas in 2012 to provide advice and support for people starting out in the sports, in addition to the best selection of products from a wide range of International brands.
K9 Trail Time has expanded in recent years and has a number of regional representatives and ambassadors who help people new to dog sports get correctly fitting equipment to maximise their safety, comfort and enjoyment. In addition, K9 Trail Time regularly attend events and races with a trade stand to bring a selection of the stock to people all over the country for them to try and buy in person.
The core of the business has always been that ‘active dogs are happy dogs’ and K9 Trail Time promotes responsible activity with your dog using positive training methods to have fun and build a bond with your dog that will last a lifetime.
In 2021 the K9 Trail Time Canicross Foundations Course was set up to give people new to the sport an introduction to running safely with their dog based on my dog-centred approach. In 2022 the K9 Trail Time Canicross Harness Course was launched to help people get the best harness for their dog for canicross through a self-paced online learning course.
Emily Thomas has been a lifelong dog owner and in 2009 took up the sports of canicross and bikejor as a way of keeping her and her rescue dogs fit and healthy. Emily currently has four dogs ranging from 2 years to 12 years old and has raced them all over the country in both National and International competitions.
In 2012 Emily set up K9 Trail Time, an online business retailing specialist sports equipment to take part in the dog sports she loves. Emily was inspired to start K9 Trail Time after she couldn’t easily find the advice or equipment for taking part in canicross, bikejoring and dog scootering, so decided to create a site where people could not only buy a range of equipment but get advice from someone who had experience of all the products and could therefore make recommendations that would be suitable for the individuality of each dog and owner.
Emily takes a keen interest in canine anatomy and physiology and is a qualified canine hydrotherapist specialising in sports dogs which means that all the equipment sold by K9 Trail Time is appropriate for pulling sports based on a functional approach and backed by knowledge of gait and research on normal canine movement.
Emily has also recently co-written and launched the first official Ofqual regulated qualification for canicross, the iPET Network Level 3 Award in Canicross Coaching, with Dawn Crook-Richards owner of CaniX UK and Toria Seaton of Wonky Dog Therapy. They teach the qualification through their canicross training company Canicross Coach Ltd.
