Profile of the Dean–Director and Principal Lecturer
Dr Palitha Serasinghe
Dr Palitha Serasinghe is the Dean–Director and Principal Lecturer of the London College of Ayurvedic Medicine and is an experienced Ayurvedic physician, academic, researcher and educator whose career spans Sri Lanka, Japan and the United Kingdom. He holds a degree in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery with First-Class Honours from the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and subsequently obtained a PhD in Medicine and Pharmacology in Japan. He has also undertaken postgraduate academic work in the United Kingdom, including a Commonwealth Visiting Academic Research Fellowship at King's College London.
Dr Serasinghe has more than three decades of experience in Ayurveda education, clinical practice and research. Earlier in his career in Sri Lanka, he served as a lecturer and senior academic, Head of Department and Consultant Ayurveda Physician at the University of Colombo's Ayurveda Teaching Hospital. His academic contributions included involvement in Ayurveda research and the development of research policy, as well as postgraduate education. His international career subsequently took him to Japan, where he contributed to Ayurveda education and professional training.
In the United Kingdom, Dr Serasinghe has held senior academic positions including Principal Lecturer, Assistant Director and Programme Leader in Ayurveda with significant involvement in the development and delivery of higher education in Ayurvedic medicine. He has been associated with the College of Ayurveda (UK) and the Ayurveda programme at Middlesex University, and has continued to contribute to teaching, research and professional education. His academic profile has also included publications and presentations relating to Ayurvedic medicine, herbal pharmacology and traditional medical practices.
Dr Serasinghe's contribution extends beyond the College itself. In February 2026, he was elected President of the British Ayurvedic Medical Council (BAMC), reflecting his longstanding involvement in the development of professional standards, education and the wider recognition of Ayurveda in the United Kingdom. He has also maintained international academic and professional links through teaching, conferences, research and collaborations across Europe and Asia.
As Dean–Director and Principal Lecturer, Dr Serasinghe provides academic and professional leadership to the London College of Ayurvedic Medicine. His approach reflects a commitment to combining the traditional foundations of Ayurveda with rigorous education, clinical experience, research and contemporary professional standards.
