Description:
From glamorous award ceremonies to lively debates, the Royal Television Society embraces all aspects of television and is open to anyone with an interest in the medium. As an educational charity, we encourage and celebrate work in television and its related fields, from finding out how the nation’s favourite shows are made in our Anatomy of a Hit series, to celebrating burgeoning talent at our annual Student Television Awards.
Every year, the RTS organises events where the industry’s most talented individuals give us an insight into the work that goes into making cutting-edge contemporary TV. From Government ministers and CEOs to workshops with great practitioners, our events look at every part of the business. Global television leaders gather to discuss what the future holds for television at our RTS Cambridge and London Conventions. This event always provides the opportunity for fresh ideas and debate around the key issues facing the Television and Streaming Media industries.
The RTS is a charity to promote the arts and science of television. Originally founded as the Television Society in 1927, the Society was granted its Royal title in 1966 and His Majesty King Charles III became Patron of the RTS in 1997. Today, 14 regional and national groups curate lively events and awards around the UK and Ireland, from Glasgow to Galway.
The RTS developed the CPD-accredited Mini MBA in TV & streaming media, in collaboration with leading industry experts, after extensive market research revealed a vital gap in professional training in this area.
The TV industry is exciting and dynamic, but it’s also complex and multi-layered. Its learn-on-the-job culture makes it challenging for people working in specialist areas to gain experience about how the rest of the business operates.
This unique online course comprises approximately 80 hours of interactive learning, with 25 carefully crafted modules divided across four main streams - Industry Context, Programme Making, Business Functions and Future Outlook. There is an optional final assessment for those wishing to attain a distinction.
With unparalleled access to the insights of over 100 inspirational top-level executives and professionals working in roles right across the sector, this expansive course shines a light on how the business of TV & Streaming Media works on a practical level. The course reveals the inner workings of the industry, and covers topics ranging from: how ideas are generated, to how programmes are developed, commissioned and made; how money flows within the TV industry; what is meant by 'terms of trade'; and how the UK TV sector is likely to change over the next 5-10 years.
Each module combines in-depth knowledge and insights from industry leaders with activities and tasks with real-world application, to equip professional learners with valuable knowledge and expertise which they can immediately put to use within their day-to-day work. All will leave empowered to make better business decisions, achieve a greater impact within their organisation, and fast-track their future careers with the competitive edge to grow as leaders.
Live webinars with key industry figures will be scheduled as special events each year to discuss key topics and themes, and every Mini MBA learner will have access to these on an ongoing basis.
The course is fully flexible and available on demand, allowing busy professionals to schedule their learning and track progress online.
Learners wishing to obtain a graded mark will have the opportunity to complete an Independent Research Dissertation.
