Description:
Studio 1718 provides CPD training in bespoke furniture specification, craft, materials, risk and responsibility for interior designers, architects, procurement professionals and design teams.
Our CPD courses help professionals understand how bespoke furniture is specified, developed, crafted and delivered successfully. The training is designed for those who want to make better decisions when commissioning furniture, reduce risk during projects, improve communication with makers, and understand the practical issues that affect quality, cost, programme and long term performance.
Why is bespoke furniture specification important for designers and architects?
Bespoke furniture is often central to the success of an interior scheme, but it can also carry risk if the brief, drawings, materials, finishes and responsibilities are not properly understood. Our CPD training helps learners recognise the decisions that need to be made early, the questions that should be asked, and the practical details that can affect the final result.
How can better understanding of furniture craft improve project outcomes?
When designers and project teams understand how furniture is actually crafted, they are better placed to specify suitable materials, allow realistic lead times, avoid avoidable changes, and protect the design intent. This leads to clearer communication, fewer assumptions and a smoother route from concept to completion.
What does the course cover?
The course introduces learners to the relationship between design intent, material selection, construction methods, finishing, technical drawings, workshop process, sustainability, lifecycle thinking and project responsibility. It uses practical examples from real bespoke furniture projects to show where problems can arise and how they can be avoided.
Studio 1718 is a bespoke furniture design and manufacturing studio based in Dundonald, Scotland. The studio crafts high quality furniture and interiors for designers, architects, private clients, hotels, commercial spaces and heritage environments. Its work combines traditional craft knowledge with modern technical drawing, workshop production and finishing methods.
The training is led by Michael Mancini, Founder and Creative Director of Studio 1718. Michael has more than 34 years of experience in antique furniture restoration, bespoke furniture production, high end interiors and workshop-led project delivery. He began his career at 17, training in antique furniture restoration, and has built his professional knowledge through decades of practical experience with furniture, materials, clients, designers and production teams.
Michael is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of The Furniture Makers’ Company. His CPD teaching is grounded in real workshop experience and is designed to give learners practical, useful knowledge that can be applied directly to their own projects.
Studio 1718 works with professionals who care about quality, detail, materials, craft and responsibility. The aim of the CPD training is to help learners understand what sits behind successful bespoke furniture, so that better decisions are made before work reaches the workshop.
