Description:

Purple Spaces is a not-for-profit organisation providing specialist CPD-accredited workplace training that helps organisations recognise, respond to, and reduce the impact of domestic abuse.

We deliver practical, trauma-informed training designed for real workplace environments, equipping staff, managers, and leaders with the confidence, understanding, and frameworks needed to respond safely when domestic abuse affects the workplace.

One in four UK employees will experience domestic abuse, and its effects are felt every day at work through reduced wellbeing, attendance, confidence, performance, and progression. Yet most organisations still lack structured training, clear policies, or designated internal responders. That is the critical gap Purple Spaces was created to close.

Our CPD-eligible training programmes help organisations answer the questions employers are increasingly asking:

  • How do we support an employee experiencing domestic abuse?
  • What should managers do, and not do, if someone discloses?
  • Where should colleagues be safely signposted for specialist support?
  • What responsibilities do employers have, and how do we create cultures where people feel safe to seek help?

Our Training Programmes;

Purple Spaces delivers three core CPD-accredited training pathways:

  1. The Purple Responder Programme: Our flagship programme trains Purple Responders, designated workplace volunteers to act as a safe, confidential first point of contact for colleagues experiencing domestic abuse. Purple Responders are not counsellors or therapists. They are trained signposts who listen with empathy, offer calm reassurance, understand risk, and connect individuals to appropriate specialist local services if they choose to seek help.

The programme covers:

  • Types of domestic abuse and its prevalence
  • Understanding risk, separation, and post-separation harm
  • Possible indicators in the workplace
  • Possible workplace adjustments
  • Boundaries, confidentiality, and self-care
  • How to handle disclosures safely and confidently using the Purple Responder Protocol, a clear, step-by-step framework outlining what to do, what not to do, and how to support colleagues without overstepping into specialist roles

The programme ensures Responders feel prepared, supported, and confident when someone in the workplace needs help.

2. The Purple Spaces Power Hour: A highly accessible one-hour awareness session, ideal for teams, large groups, internal campaigns, or themed months. This session introduces what domestic abuse is, how common it is, how it shows up in professional environments, the myths that create barriers to support, and the local support available.

3. Leadership Training for Senior Teams: This session is designed specifically for senior leaders and does not train them to manage disclosures directly. Instead, it provides leaders with the insight and organisational understanding needed to create the conditions for safe, effective support.

Leaders gain:

  • A clear understanding of domestic abuse beyond stereotypes and misconceptions
  • Insight into prevalence and workplace impact
  • Awareness of potential indicators in a work setting
  • Understanding of the Purple Responder Programme and how to support it effectively
  • Confidence to shape policy, set expectations, and lead cultural change

This ensures leaders create the conditions in which Responders and all employees can be properly supported.

Our mission is simple: to disrupt domestic abuse by making every workplace a safer space.
